• Non-Ozone Depleting: M089 is designed to be non-ozone-depleting, making it a more environmentally conscious alternative to older refrigerants that contribute to ozone depletion.
• Applications: Its main applications include:
  • Freeze dryers
  • Medical freezers
  • Environmental test chambers
  • Other very low-temperature refrigeration systems (typically below -40C to -70C, or -40F to -100F).
• Retrofit Solution: A significant benefit of M089 is its ability to serve as a "drop-in" replacement for R-13B1. In most cases, it is compatible with both traditional and new lubricants, often eliminating the need for a complete lubricant change during the retrofit process.
• Performance: It offers cooling capabilities similar to the refrigerants it replaces.
• Physical Properties: M089 is a colorless, slight-ether-like smelling, liquefied gas. It has a boiling point around -46.1 C and a critical temperature of 72 C.
• Safety Considerations: While generally considered safe for its intended use, rapid evaporation of the liquid can cause frostbite. Vapors are heavier than air and can cause suffocation by reducing available oxygen. It's important to handle M089 with proper ventilation and safety precautions.

It's worth noting that due to its relatively high Global Warming Potential (GWP), its use may be subject to regulations in some regions (e.g., certain restrictions in the UK and EU for virgin product in stationary refrigeration applications with a high CO2 equivalent, though there are exemptions for very low-temperature systems).
